SGPP Wildcat Support Committee

The Wildcat Support Committee is responsible for providing recommendations and proposals to the Director and SGPP faculty on initiatives and approaches aimed at: (i) fostering and promoting a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within the School; (ii) facilitating training opportunities, services, and assistance to students, faculty, and staff so the School operates in a fair and collegial manner; (iii) promoting the development of a curriculum that engages with various groups and approaches; (iv) proposing guidelines, policies, and activities that promote an academic environment that promotes informed and respectful dialogue; (v) identifying other issues and opportunities regarding strategic priorities that require attention; and vi) coordinating with the Committee on Recruitment and Visitors to help the School meet its hiring priorities and retention efforts, especially as related to representation.

As part of our Wildcat Challenge, we have identified five pairs of words to reflect and communicate our core values. The School's Wildcat Support Committee is charged with identifying and coordinating activities to ensure we uphold these values across all dimensions of our mission.

Interdisciplinary curiosity

Together, we explore and understand complex issues by drawing on knowledge and perspectives from multiple disciplines.

Civic excellence

Together, we develop, demonstrate, and deliver high-quality civic engagement and understanding.

Compassionate service

Together, we provide help and support to others with empathy, understanding, and a genuine desire to alleviate their suffering.

Impactful collaboration

Together, we work to achieve shared, meaningful goals, leveraging diverse skills and perspectives.

Resilient community

Together, we respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse events like natural disasters, economic downturns, and threats to democracy.

We are committed to fostering welcoming, respectful environments in which our students, staff, faculty, community partners, and visitors can participate fully, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, citizenship status, size, ability, language, religion, or any other characteristic.

We recognize that the disciplines of political science and public affairs do not yet reflect the complexity of our increasingly multicultural society, and that the substance of these disciplines is subject to polarized worldviews. Accordingly, we promote open, critical, and respectful dialogue and practices. To ensure that all members of the SGPP community thrive, we condemn expressions of discrimination and hate, and support pedagogies which invite open discussion and challenge all manifestations of unconscious bias in the classroom, on campus, and in the community.
