Declare Major or Minor
We are excited you want to pursue a major or minor in the School of Government and Public Policy! The information below will help you get started with the process of changing majors or declaring a minor.
Declare an SGPP Major
Spring 2023 'Change of Major' requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. All 'Change of Major' requests submitted on or after January 27, 2023 will begin to be processed on April 21, 2023.
To declare a major or add a second major/degree in Law, Criminal Justice Studies, Political Science, or Public Management & Policy you must:
- Have a UA grade point average of 2.0 or higher or be in your first semester at the UA
- Review the major information and degree requirements for your major of interest:
- Pay the associated program fee each semester once you reach 60 units (see information in next section)
Current UA students can declare an SGPP major only during certain time frames at the beginning and ends of each semester. If the change of major form is not active, you will need to return to complete it during the specified time frame.
To declare an SGPP Major, please complete the online information session linked below; please note that only UArizona Main campus students should complete the information session linked below. UArizona online students should connect with their Academic Advisor to discuss declaring an SGPP major.
SGPP Program Fee
Students who have completed at least 60 units with a declared major in Criminal Justice Studies, Political Science, or Public Management and Policy will be charged a $450 program fee per semester (spring and fall) until they graduate. Law majors will be charged a $900 program fee per semester (spring and fall) until they graduate.
Declare an SGPP Minor
Any advisor on campus can help you declare the Government & Public Policy minor. However, this minor is not available for SGPP major students.
