Herbert Tinsley

As a Ph.D. student with the School of Government and Public Policy, I am pursuing research on professionalization and innovation in non-state militant groups, with particular interest in those phenomena's effects on organizational dynamics and uses of terrorism. My broader research interests include extremist ideologies and primary source documents, jihadism, foreign fighters, terrorism in the context of new religious movements, apocalyptic millenarianism, the Islamic State and CBRN weapons, fidayin and fidayin-style attacks, and aviation security and insider threats. I formerly worked as a senior researcher with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, where my research was utilized by federal and local government, foreign government, and private industry consumers. I also served in the United States Air Force and am a long-time student of the Arabic language.
