The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Tucson Branch, includes the criminal and civil divisions with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), Legal Assistants, Paralegals, Litigation Support, the Financial Litigation Program, and Victim Witness Services. The mission of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona is to:

  • Represent the interests of the United States in criminal and civil cases
  • Seek alternatives to prosecution when appropriate, including diversion and reentry assistance
  • Coordinate the law enforcement efforts of federal, tribal, state, and local agencies
  • Enhance and strengthen the communities we serve through outreach
  • Advocate for the rights of victims throughout the criminal justice process
  • Provide an excellent work environment for all USAO employees

Internship Description (Unpaid)

Interns will gain insight and hands-on experience supporting the mission of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Tucson Criminal Division, in criminal cases, community outreach, and diversion court alternatives.  Learning objectives will include:

  • Observe federal court proceedings
  • Shadow prosecutors and support staff
  • Review and analyze case pleadings to enhance understanding of criminal law and procedures
  • Organize, copy, and scan documents
  • Assist with set up for office events and meetings
  • General research

Minimum Qualifications

Intern must be a U.S citizen and at least a part-time enrolled undergraduate student (excluding summer) with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Intern must receive clearance through a federal background check before internship can begin, which can take several weeks. Interest in criminal law and a legal career are helpful.
