MPA Spotlight: Kudiret Anuar
My name is Kudiret Anuar Yerzhanuly, and I am originally from Astana, Kazakhstan. I am proud to be the first in my family to pursue an education outside of Kazakhstan, especially in the United States. In Kazakh culture, the first person who studies abroad is considered someone who opens a new road for their family. For me, this journey is not only academic, it carries a sense of responsibility, pride, and motivation to create opportunities for the next generation in my family.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in International Law from Suleyman Demirel University in Almaty. After graduating, I began my career as a prosecutor at the Baikonyr District Prosecutor’s Office in Astana, working in criminal case supervision for nearly a year and a half. In Kazakhstan, the role of a prosecutor is tied to the cultural value of "әділдік” - justice. Serving in the justice system is viewed as a meaningful and respected form of public duty, and this principle has guided me throughout my work.
My studies in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at the University of Arizona became possible thanks to the support of the Bolashak International Scholarship, for which I am sincerely grateful. I chose the MPA program because it aligns with my goals in public service and my commitment to strengthening governance and justice institutions in Kazakhstan. The program has helped me grow academically and personally, has sharpened my analytical skills, and has increased my understanding of public administration from a broader global perspective.
I am thankful to the School of Government & Public Policy for its support, high-quality education, and outstanding faculty and staff. During my time in Arizona, I also developed a genuine appreciation for the state’s nature - its open landscapes and quiet deserts, which in some ways reminded me of home.
After completing my degree, I will return to my position in the prosecutor’s office in Kazakhstan, where I intend to apply the knowledge and values I gained here to continue serving my community and contributing to justice and public service in my country.
