MPP Spotlight: Anais Ruiz

A first-generation student from Rio Rico, AZ, Anais graduated summa cum laude from the UofA with a Bachelor of Science in Public Management and Policy in 2023 with a minor in Sociology.
Now a 2nd-year Master of Public Policy student, she chose the program to expand her analytical skills and deepen her understanding of impactful policy-making, with a special interest in social policy areas such as education, welfare, and housing. She also serves as President of the Public Affairs Student Association and is a member of the School of Government and Public Policy’s DEI Committee, and she actively contributes to the university community by advocating for equity-focused initiatives.
Currently, Anais works as a Grants Analyst for Arizona’s Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting, where she analyzes state fiscal issues and assists with budget preparation and grant management. This role builds on her previous experience as a Grants Analyst Intern with OSPB and reflects her dedication to public sector work. Anais also works as a Graduate Assistant with the Dean of Students Office. In this role, Anais has refined her conflict resolution and community support skills, balancing student development with campus safety. She has also served in roles with the Arizona Students’ Association, iDE Global, and the Arizona Democratic Party, each of which strengthened her expertise in policy analysis, research, and community engagement.
After graduation, Anais aims to work as a policy or legislative analyst within state or federal government or for a think tank to support research-based solutions that improve education access, welfare systems, and housing opportunities, with a commitment to creating positive change for Arizona and beyond.
