MPA Alumni Spotlight: Laureana Jones, '23
I am a first-generation student with an undergraduate BA Law degree from the University of Arizona, and I will receive an MPA in May 2023. Currently, I work at the School of Government and Public Policy as an Internship Coordinator where I serve as a liaison between students and public sector employers. In addition, I instruct a professional development course and help guide students with their academic and professional goals. I enjoy being part of SGPP as an undergraduate alumnus, student, and employee!
When I graduated with my undergraduate degree in 2017, I worked for a local prosecution government agency and recognized that I enjoyed serving the public. After working in the legal field for two years, I sought to work for the University of Arizona to advance my education. The MPA was a great option because I could work for UArizona during the day and take classes at night. I enjoy the in-person format because I feel engaged with my classmates and faculty. The support I have received from staff, faculty, and my student peers has been incredible.
The MPA program has provided a great understanding of the inner workings of government. The MPA has given extensive knowledge of government functions at the federal, state, and local levels. In addition, courses such as Conflict Resolution and Leadership & Ethics have given me skills that I can apply not only professionally but also in my personal life.
My post-graduation plans include remaining in academia to educate and create initiatives to support the next generation of public servants!
