The Washington Center offers a holistic experience designed to help you gain the experience, skills and network you’ll need to succeed, all while earning academic credit.
Internship
TWC partners with hundreds of internship sites so that we can connect you to the opportunities that fit you best. Once you begin your internship, you’ll be working on projects related to your interests, with a supervisor who cares about your growth and success.
Once admitted to TWC, students will have to enroll in the SGPP Internship Course and pay UA Tuition. Students must be enrolled in one credit over the Summer.
Criminal Justice Majors will be enrolled in PA 493
Public Affairs (formerly PMPC) will be enrolled in PA 393
Law & Political Science Majors will be enrolled in POL 393

Career Readiness Programming
Through TWC’s Career Readiness Programming, you’ll develop the professionalism, communication skills, and network necessary to excel in any work environment. Each week, you’ll engage in a mix of professional development workshops, networking events and more designed to maximize your internship experience.
Academic Course
All students partaking in the Washington Center’s Summer Internship Program must be enrolled in at least one internship unit.
Housing
Participants have the option of staying in TWC’s furnished intern housing in NoMa, a cosmopolitan neighborhood full of unique restaurants and nightlife.
You’ll be within walking distance of the National Mall and the best that D.C. has to offer (not to mention essentials like grocery stores and the Metro). Even better, you’ll have a built-in community of fellow interns to explore the city with.

Applying to the Washington Center’s Summer Internship Program
The University of Arizona and the Washington Center each have a separate application. There are also scholarships available to SGPP students . Students in the program must be enrolled in at least one internship credit at the time of their participation.
Scholarships
The University of Arizona’s School of Government and Public Policy can provide a limited number of scholarships for students who wish to apply to the Washington Center’s Summer Internship Program. Every student who is awarded a scholarship will have tuition and housing for the program paid in full by the university (up to $12,500). There are also other funds available to certain students to cover travel costs and other expenses.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Summer 2025 Internship Program and funding from SGPP, students must:
- Have completed 60 Credits by the end of the Spring 2025 Semester
- Have a planned Graduation date of Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 (mandatory)
- Be an SGPP major
- (Law, Criminal Justice Studies, Political Science, or Public Management & Policy)
- Have a GPA above 2.75*
Application Process
Students who plan on applying to the Washington Center must submit both an SGPP application and an external application to the Washington Center.

Please complete this step only after SGPP notifies you that you have been accepted for the scholarship. If you prefer to pay for the TWC program and housing fees ($12,500) without being awarded the scholarship by SGPP, please proceed to step two.

*Applicants with below a 2.75 GPA may be considered if they have an exceptional profile otherwise
