Internship Description: Unpaid

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Incoming calls
  • Research Assignments
  • Constituent Casework including follow-up
  • May attend meetings with City Council, City staff, neighborhood associations, other community groups or individuals and organizations as required. To include some evening and weekend work

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to learn city services, programs, codes and ordinances.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Purpose of the Internship

Tucson Councilmember Richard Fimbres (Ward 5) is looking for caring and committed people, wanting to learn the intricacies of City Government and working with the community to make Tucson a better place to live, work and raise a family.

The individuals would need some basic knowledge of office procedures (phones, computers, creating a monthly newsletter and working with the public). 

A person who is bilingual is preferred since many of the constituents of Ward 5 only speak Spanish.  Other duties include research projects and attending meetings to represent the Ward 5 office. 

This is an unpaid, volunteer position with the option of possible school credits for students eligible.  The individuals would need to be able to give 10 to 15 hours of their time for this position.

Agency Minimum Qualifications

  • 2.0 GPA (2.5 preferred), sophomore status or above, at least one semester at UA
