TurnUp Activism Remote INTERNSHIP

 TurnUp is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed at increasing youth activism, education, and civic engagement. We’re on a mission to strengthen democracy by increasing high impact youth civic action and closing the gap between young people who want to take civic action and those who actually do. We provide the education, tools, and opportunities needed to create a civically competent and engaged electorate of young voters armed with the skills to strengthen our democracy for generations to come.

Internship Description (Unpaid)

Interns will work in remote teams to develop their civic literacy and democratic competency in a remote yet collaborative setting by:  

  • participating in civic actions
  • working on voter turnout projects
  • performing targeted outreach
  • engaging in advocacy and activism
  • finding and participating in remote volunteer opportunities together
  • attending the TurnUp Speaker Series
  • doing civics and activism related research, writing and presenting

Interns will: 

  • attend weekly team meetings
  • complete weekly tasks covering a variety of issues related to civic engagement, social justice, and activism
  • engage weekly in grassroots activism 
  • have opportunities to present their work to the TurnUp community 

All interns are expected to join and help with existing registration drives at their schools, and if there isn’t one at their school, we support their success in initiating and performing their own registration drives with permission granted from their schools.

Purpose of the Internship 

interns will work together to advocate for issues important to young people, increase youth voter registration, fight voter suppression and boost youth voter turnout. Upon completion, interns are prepared to go forward being civically responsible and engaged activists. With our community, the TurnUp mobile app, and curriculum, we foster youths’ professional development, creative potential, leadership ability, and social/emotional development, emphasizing an increase in self-knowledge and confidence.

Agency Preferred Qualifications

We offer a curriculum that is amenable to the principles of differentiated teaching, adapting process, support, and content accordingly. Most of our interns have come in with or have subsequently developed interests in the following areas of study: Civics, Criminal Justice, Government, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Justice, Social Work, Sociology, and Women and Gender Studies.
