Arizona Supreme Court - AmeriCorps & Adult Probation

Arizona Supreme Court/Adult Probation Services Division (APSD) oversees the effective statewide administration of adult probation programs and services in accordance with statutory and administrative guidelines. This division interacts with the courts, probation departments, and a variety of non-court agencies and organizations throughout Arizona. Within APSD is the Adult Probation Support Services (APSS) AmeriCorps Program which provides the opportunity for individuals to join National Service and serve in their local communities while earning a modest living allowance and upon successful completion of a service term receive a Segal AmeriCorps Educational Award.

Deadlines

Applications are generally open year-round for all three semesters, except between April and June when the application process is closed. Applicants must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check prior to acceptance into the program. This process generally takes 6 weeks, so the sooner students apply the better.

Internship Description: Paid Stipend

The Arizona Supreme Court/Adult Probation Services Division seeks enthusiastic candidates to apply to the AmeriCorps Probation Support Services Program (APSS), as an AmeriCorps Member- Probation Assistant.  Under general supervision, this AmeriCorps Probation Assistant position will serve as an aid to Pima County Adult Probation Officers and staff in their daily responsibilities and duties that may include and will not be limited to the following: 

  • Aiding with case administration and case management duties;  

  • Providing court navigation assistance; 

  • Providing linkages and/or referrals for both probationers and those who are in the re-entry population and assisting in the assessment of change of behavior or the intent to change behavior of individuals to better their economic opportunities; 

  • Assisting with the increase of self- sufficiency skills, soft skills, work-force development skills; 

  • Providing links to court-ordered community restitution programs, education resources, such as access to GED prep courses and technical trainings and;

  • Assisting with the facilitation of integrated cognitive behavior change programs. 

Purpose of the Internship

In the APSS AmeriCorps Program students who are interested in serving can also earn academic credit while serving as an AmeriCorps Member.  Students gain practical experience in the fields of Criminal Justice, Public Service, Law Enforcement, Social Justice, earn a modest living allowance, upon completion of a service term become eligible for the Segal Educational Award or just simply enjoy helping your community in a unique way. 

Agency Minimum Qualifications

18 years of age, High School Diploma /GED, a US Citizen and must pass criminal background check.

Agency Preferred Qualifications 

The ability to multitask and manage a high-volume and time-critical work environment; excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to establish effective working relationships with others; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; the ability to plan, organize and maintain work flow; the ability to work under supervision and exercise judgment; basic computer skills.  Should be able to accurately maintain statistics and records; maintain confidentiality of all parties.
