City of Tucson Intergovernmental Relations

The Office of Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) at the City of Tucson is looking for legislative analyst interns. The IGR office represents the City of Tucson’s interest at the Arizona State Legislature and the Arizona Governor’s Office, as well as at the federal level.

Agency Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should be well-organized and possess effective written communications skills and have familiarity with legislative analysis.

Agency Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicants include students who have taken the Law 461/561 Legislative Analysis Class and who have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.

Internship Duties

The legislative analyst intern will help review bills pending before the Arizona Legislature, summarize the bills in a clear, thorough, and informative manner; collaborate with subject matter experts in City departments to assess the impact of the bill on City of Tucson interests; and coordinate with and report to the Intergovernmental Relations Manager.

Purpose of the Internship

The internship provides assistance to the Intergovernmental Relations Office and provides students with valuable, first-hand experience in the legislative process. Students will develop classroom knowledge in a realworld setting by monitoring legal changes and interpreting how potential outcomes of proposed legislation will impact the City of Tucson, as well as businesses, schools, or other organizations.

Additional Information

B.A. in Law majors must enroll for internship credit in Law 493A . MLS students must enroll in Law 593.
