The Washington Center Seminars

The School of Government and Public Policy has funding available to sponsor eligible students to attend an academic seminar program in Washington D.C. SGPP funding will cover seminar costs and a travel stipend. The next Washington Center Seminar will be held in January 2025, with SGPP applications opening in September 2024. Presidential Inauguration Seminar - January 2025

Engage in discussions with thought leaders, political experts and seasoned journalists in the days leading up to the inauguration of the President of the United States.

Be part of history by getting a behind-the-curtain look into the American political process at the Presidential Inauguration 2025 Seminar. You’ll interact with political and media insiders who had a front seat to the presidential election and explore government agencies, think tanks and media outlets in the nation’s capital.

SGPP students may apply for funding to attend the above Seminar hosted by The Washington Center. See details on applying below.

Eligible Expenses 

  • The Washington Center Seminar Program Fee ($2395.00)
  • Airfare Costs (provided to students as a stipend of up to $750.00)

*The seminar program fee will be paid by SGPP directly to The Washington Center.

*Please note the seminar program fee does not include food, Washington DC city travel, or personal expenses.

Requirements 

You must meet the following requirements to apply for stipends/reimbursements: 

  • You must be a declared SGPP major (Law, Criminal Justice Studies, Public Management & Policy, or Political Science)
  • Junior or Senior status (minimum of 60 credits completed) with a 2.75 GPA or higher
  • Individual student awards may not exceed $2500 total over the course of their time in an SGPP major. 
  • You will be held to the Student Code of Conduct standards while representing the UA at off-campus events/locations.

All stipends/reimbursements are credited to the student's bursar account. Any deficits on the student's bursar account will be satisfied before a refund will be issued. 

How to Apply 

Do not wait until the last day to submit online applications! Incomplete or late applications will not be considered for funding.

  1. Complete the Online Application
    As part of your application, you will need to upload the following documents: 
  • Brief Essay Statement answering the following questions (250 - 500 words): 
    • How is this program relevant to your School of Government and Public Policy major?
    • How will this program help you achieve your future professional interests? 
  • Résumé - including current education, career, scholarship and volunteer experience
