Jan Rydzak

About Jan Rydzak

Jan's research revolves around digital media, the use of ICTs (information and communication technologies) by both regimes and those who oppose them ('repression tech' vs. 'liberation tech'), control of information flows in the Internet, and social networks in wired societies, especially where democracy is lacking. He examines patterns of censorship in digital media as well as the digital world's contributions to democracy. He is also interested in development, particularly how technological innovations and big data can be used to catalyze and accelerate it. Jan is majoring in Comparative Politics and minoring in Journalism, and likes to think he learns languages in his 'free time.'
