Alexis Work

Ph.D. Candidate

Alexis Work is a Ph.D. Candidate majoring in Comparative Politics and minoring in Methods. She is broadly interested in the conditions under which gender equality policy is advanced and effectively implemented. Her regional focus is in Latin America, and her ongoing research centers on Argentina, Colombia, El Salvador, and Mexico. Her dissertation project seeks to understand how equality-oriented institutions can help to approve and implement policy to promote equality, focusing specifically on the role of Women’s Policy Agencies in combatting Gender-Based Violence. She argues that differing resources had by these agencies can help contribute to different types of policy outcomes. This dissertation project employs a mixed methods approach, using originally collected data to inform both case studies and statistical analyses. Alexis’ other recent research aims to better understand public opinion and reporting trends of gender-based violence in Latin America.
