Arizona Department of Corrections Internship - Criminal Justice (Phoenix)

The Inmate Programs & Reentry Division is comprised of inmate programs and services, Arizona Correctional Industries, and Community Corrections. The Division focuses on ensuring that inmates are placed in evidence-based programs geared toward their individual needs, commensurate with their risk to recidivate, from the time of their initial assessment at reception, through their incarceration, and upon their transition to release to community supervision. The Division of Inmate Programs and Reentry is led by Karen Hellman, who brings a wealth of education and experience within ADC managing addiction treatment, sex offender treatment, and the reentry program.

Internship Description

Interns will work directly with ADC COIII’s (Case Managers) at the Wilmot Prison or the Pima Reentry Center. Interns will be afforded the opportunity to complete the following duties: Facilitate psycho-educational classes, provide case management services/release planning, complete off-site work assignment contracts with inmates, participate in community outreach, participate in fundraising activities, assist with coordinating recreational activities, assist in facilitating the inmate orientation process, attend morning operations meetings.

Purpose of the Internship

Interns will receive the opportunity to learn the following skills: Group facilitation, case management/release planning, community outreach, fundraising, release planning, Risk-need-responsivity factors, Criminogenic risk factors, identification of anti-social behavior, redirection of inmates using prosocial interventions, basic prison operations, crisis intervention, working with onsite contractors and volunteers, and learn about ADA accommodations.
