The Political Science department has had a chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science National Honor Society, in the past, and we would like to re-establish this prestigious chapter once again here at UA. This will depend on student interest and involvement. More information about the chapter is below and you can also view the national chapter’s website.
What is Pi Sigma Alpha?
Pi Sigma Alpha is the National Political Science Honor Society. It is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. The number of Pi Sigma Alpha chapters on campuses across the country is rapidly approaching 700. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
Who Can Join?
Undergraduates must meet the following criteria to be accepted:
- Must have junior or senior standing (must have completed 60 or more units)
- Must have completed at least 10 units of Political Science coursework (at least one upper division course) with an average grade of B or higher in those courses.
What are the Benefits of Joining?
Pi Sigma Alpha will offer students a sense of community and accomplishment. The society will be mostly student-run and will have a faculty advisor. All members receive a certificate of membership and permanent enrollment in the society’s membership data base. Pi Sigma Alpha has partnered with organizations to offer significant discounts on test prep courses and other products.
